Cross Country Season commences from Saturday 17th April running through to Saturday 11th September.
Where: Cross Country venues change each week, rotating between the following four local Venues.
- Morrison Reserve – Mt Evelyn (Yarra Ranges Athletics Track)
- Lillydale Lake – Lilydale
- Margaret Lewis Reserve – Coldstream
- Elizabeth Bridge Reserve – Durham Road, Kilsyth
How Far do they run? Junior athletes have a defined distance for their official race. The distances run are:
U7 – U8: 1000m
U9 – U10: 1500m
U11 – U12: 2000m
U13 – U16: 3000m
How does it work? Each week we meet at the race venue, gather for any updates and announcements, and then take athletes to warm up.
Races are completed in order of distances with the 500m up first. Courses are marked with flags and marshals are positioned in areas where athletes need direction. There are ‘Hare’s and Tortoises’ to lead and follow each race.
The courses are run on parkland and can include running on gravel paths and grassed areas.
All Registered Little Athletics Athletes are already eligible to Run Cross Country.
