Bring a Friend Day

Saturday 18th November, 2017 is ‘Bring a Friend’ Day at little Athletics.

It would be great for our kids to bring a friend to show them how much fun athletics is (and give them free bananas!).

If you bring an extra child please see the registrar Tiffany for a special bib.

Training and Coaching

2017 Training UPDATE

We also have a new sprint coach! Meg Rankin will start sprint training on Tuesday 28th November from 5.00pm to 6.00pm.

The purpose of the general training session is to provide an opportunity for athletes to build their general fitness base in a fun environment. Parents are welcome to train with their children. Opportunities for event specific training will also be provided throughout the year.

As you are aware, athletics is a largely volunteer-run sport, so if any of the coaches ask for any assistance, please help.

Bad weather: Please monitor the Croydon Little Athletics Facebook page for updates on any potential cancellations of training due to bad weather.

Call for Relay Athletes

Croydon Little Athletics Centre competes every year in the Box Hill Invitational, Eastern Metropolitan Region and State Relay Championships. Last year, we had many teams qualify for the State Championships. Details of the season are:

Box Hill Invitational Relays: Sunday 12th November, 2017 @ Hagenauers Reserve, Box Hill Nth

EMR Regional Relay Championships: Saturday 25th November, 2017 @ Nunawading Athletics, East Burwood Reserve, Burwood East

State Relay Championships: Saturday 16th December, 2017 @ Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park

Athletes: Under 9 – Under 15

Competing in the Relay Championships is a great opportunity for our athletes to represent our Centre in team based competition, to learn relay racing techniques and understand what it takes to work with others.

The Relay events include both same sex and mixed teams in the following events:

  • 4 x 100m
  • 4 x 200m
  • Medley, which consists of 2x 100m legs, 1 x200m leg and 1 x 400m leg.

Please refer to the Relay Section of the Centre Handbook for full details regarding the Relay Championships (including availability,  team selection, training, centre uniform and parent duty at the event.

Please email croydon@lavic.com.au ASAP to be involved in these fun events.

Opening Round Saturday 7th October!

The 2017/18 Season kicks off this Saturday 7th October.

Please ensure children are registered online via LAVic website, this includes children who are wanting to join us on a ‘trial’ basis. Don’t leave this task till Friday night, as bibs are being printed as we speak, and you run the risk of your kids not being able to compete on the first day!

Bibs will be ready to collect from your club tables, so allow some extra time in the morning for everyone to gain access to their info and ensure we are all ready to roll for first events. Club Managers will give athletes a welcome before 9am, with events kicking off after that.

Our first day will be busy busy busy, so please bear with us as we ensure to do our best at having a smoothly run day for all involved.

Please keep an eye out for new athletes and ‘trial’ athletes, new families need guidance, so ensure you help out those that look a little lost and confused as to where to be and what to do!

And don’t forget parents… without your help to assist with duty tasks, we cannot run events….. so your help is extremely important to the children being able to participate in Little Aths. Make sure you let your clubs know when you are available to help.

Last but not least…. SUNDAY 8th October is our fundraising BBQ at Bunnings Chirnside Park – please volunteer to help if you can.

See you Saturday, don’t forget some sunscreen and a bottle of water!!!!

CROSS COUNTRY PRESENTATION DAY

Hi CLAC families,

This Saturday the 19th of August is our final winter day. It is our presentation and break up day and here are the details.
Good evening all just some more info for Saturdays Presentation day @ Hedgend Maze which is located at 163 Albert Rd Healesville. Start time is 10.00am we will try to hold our usual team fun run first but if the weather is no good or the grass area too wet we may have to forget it, a BBQ lunch is supplied by the club, Cost is $15 a family but this is for your immediate family we ask any Grandparents or other relatives to pay $5 each to cover entrance costs. Payment will be as you enter to one of our club committee on the door. Saturdays weather looks a little cold so bring some warm clothes. The really good news is there is now a large marquee that fits 200 people so all good but the only thing Hedgend asks is if we could take off our shoes to save the carpet from being muddied. Please don’t forget to bring some chairs, cheers and look forward to seeing you all .
